As President of AFGE Local 2778, Kendrick Hayes leads the Local’s efforts to protect bargaining-unit employees, enforce workplace rights, and ensure workers have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting their jobs.
His leadership priorities include fair treatment, accountable management, safe working conditions, strong representation, and preserving the public servants and services veterans depend upon.

A Local Is Established
1967
AFGE Local 2778 was established to represent federal workers in Decatur, Georgia.
Defending Frontline Employees
2020
Local 2778 publicly raised concerns about employee safety, staffing communication, and veteran care following the closure of the Atlanta VA Medical Center’s community living center during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Standing With Workers and Veterans
2025
Local 2778 joined community and labor partners for the “Federal Workers & Vets Need Care, Not Cuts” rally outside the Atlanta VA Hospital.
A New Leadership Chapter
2026
Under President Kendrick Hayes, Local 2778 continues its mission of protecting Atlanta VA employees and the public services they provide.
